  Soil

Cherimoya perform well on a wide range of soil types from light to heavy, but seem to do best on a free draining medium soil of good fertility. The optimum soil pH ranges from 6.5 to 7.6.

It’s important that uniform soil moisture is maintained from flowering until harvest. Trees can succumb to root-rot in clay or soggy soils, or where there is too much moisture and insufficient drainage, especially in cool weather.

Some cherimoya trees in Argentina apparently make excellent growth on rockstrewn, loose, sandy loam 60–90cm above a gravel subsoil.
